Ad-Aware

Hi

I have been reading Frank Saunders post on how to use a free download of
Ad-Aware properly and it looks like I've been using it improperly!

Can I check a couple of things with Frank, or anyone who sees my post?
1. I am using Adaware SE Personal Build 1.06r1 (definitions SE1R66). Is this
the latest most dynamic version of Ad-Aware? Or should I purchase a different
version?
2. Is there a user document for Spybot? I've ben running it in easy mode and
letting it delete anything it finds. I gather that is not the best way to use
it!
 
You don't need to purchase a new Ad-Aware. No matter what you have, free or
paid version, you have the most current version available. If you check for
updates, which you should do by clicking the 'check for updates' option, and
there are updates available, update your Ad-Aware and you're good to go.

As for SpyBot, as long as you have the 'back up deleted files enabled' ( it
might be called 'quarantine), you are okay, but I like to review the items
that SpyBot found before I do anything. So far, I have had no problems at
all with the files that it found and deleted.

If, by Easy Mode, you mean default, then that's okay. Just go in to
'settings' >'Main Settings', and put a mark next to the things that you
want, like all the 'create backups' and 'create system restore' etc. Then,
if something is deleted that you need you can always restore those files.
 
Sorry, I forgot to mention that SpyBot does have a pretty good 'Help' file &
Tutorial.
Click the "help' file on the toolbar. You will see Help and Tutorial.

Thanks for your help. Do you know which is the most up-to-date Ad-Aware?
I've looked on the website and there are several different types of software.
Is SE Personal ok?

Both of them need to be updated from the Web before each use. I don't know
what else I ever posted about using them.

Always, always, always choose to quarantine rather than delete. After
verifying that everything still works delete from quarantine.
