"No more updates past 31 Dec 2007 for Ad-Aware SE. All SE users should be
switching now to Ad-Aware 2007 if you haven't already done that yet.
The subforums for SE will also be going away shortly
ereafter." -LavaSoft

Yikes. Robin and others any opinion on the 2007 release at this point?

Yikes indeed. I think this will simply result in me losing one of my range
of defences. Having followed quite a bit of the fiasco on the Lavasoft
forum, I don't think I want 2007 on my computer, even now. I'll be
interested to read other opinions on this.

My Ad-Aware 2007 on my XP - IE7 machine works perfect, and has from
the start. I never had any of those early bugs that were being reported on
some machines. The only thing i remember was that the free version
was getting Ad-Watch which has been corrected. Ron

I'm neutral at this point as I have read similar horror stories of Ad-aware 2007.
I will run it come 2008 - and wait and see.
As always, I will keep you all informed.

i have it on 12 computers (mine and various clients)
2 I had to take it off because it totally messed up AVG antivirus
and I have a client running Trend Micro Security and it messed that up too.
We had to reinstall both programs after i uninstalled it.

The other ones- it has no bugs when it runs but when it does updates it
messes up alot there.
First it takes about 3minutes give or take to remember that it asked for an
update and finally will come back and tell you there is an update and it
installed it.
this happens on all 10 computers it is on. So you need to have patience
when running it.
Especially if there is a mega update- it will tell you it is finished but it
really is not. You should not say "ok" until you see the bar going across
with the percentage finishes then you can click OK- if you do it too early
the whole program crashes.
I still cannot get it to run correctly in Vista Home Premium- it is a Hit or
Miss. It can only run in the administrative side and only when you right
click and click on "run as an admin"

Also i do not like its results. It can show nothing but in the second tab
is where your tracking cookies actually show up. This is real confusing to
beginners and if i did not mess around with it I would have missed this
myself (that is why i made a step by step manual for this program (pictures
and all) for my clients so they understand how to use it. Alan if you want
it email me and i will send it to you.

If you want to deal with these minor problems then i suggest you try it.
Just be aware (it happened on my avg pro with firewall on one of my
computers but not the other )to follow my suggestions on how to fix this.

I will post the fix here so print this out or copy and paste it then print
it out

If AVG asks for a reboot after an update
first
Bring up your AVGCC->(Double Click)Update Manager->This will bring up the
Properties window where the default setting should be 'Update immediately' &
'Require confirmation from user'....

After a reboot , please perform following procedure:

* Please run AVG Control Center->Update Manager->Settings->Advanced
tab-> use "Delete update temporary files" button.
* Reboot your PC.
* Try to update again.

also

AVG Control Center > Update Manager > Properties > Update Immediately >
Require confirmation from the user.

cross your fingers and pray then install it Alan ;0

This is very sad :(
and poorly handled.

They should have given Much More Notice.
This was my first and favorite AntiSpyware program and I have always been a
supporter.
They have shown disrespect to their users.

I will leave it installed on my home machine for a couple of weeks after
they stop updating to see if they change their mind.

I will install the new version on my work machine again after the new year
[I had installed it after it first came out and found it problematic].

If it causes Any difficulties it's not going on the home machine and will be
uninstalled until the next version, which will not be installed until it is
proven to be bug free.

If the updates are too big and can't be easily transported from work to the
home machine, it's not going on the home machine.

I will ask for feed back before trying to install it again in a few weeks

This is very sad :(

This is really helpful Robin, thanks. These statistics are really all I need
to know. 2 out of 12 (or is it 3 out of 13? - doesn't matter), together with
the other awkwardnesses associated with it, just rule it out for me.

I agree with Tim. It's very sad that they've handled things so badly.

Hi Dave

FWIW. I have been running 2007 since the first release and apart from a few
updating issues in the earlier releases have not had any problem with it
since - current version installed 7.0.2.5. The issues (in my case), related
mainly to the GUI not updating rather than the scanning engine itself. At the
moment I`m running the free version with AVG free (Control Centre enabled),
WD (real time enabled), ZA Pro and NAV 2007. They all seem to `get along`
well together. OS ? XP SP2. Hope you find this useful.

oh also i set the awservice to "manual" on all the computers in
Administrative Tools/Services
even when i run it at least it stays in manual and i find it uses less
memory even though it still sits in proccessors

Very good news indeed. We shall have less spam in 2008 on this newsgroup
because of bonkers out there who have nothing better to do but to post any
rubbish here even if it has nothing to do with MS products.

Some people don't have shame at all. They have been told many times that
these newsgroups are for people who wants advice, and information about MS
prosucts - NOT ABOUT SOME SPYWARE FROM THIRD PARTY WHO LIKES TO DECEIVE THE
THE UNSUSPECTING MS CUSTOMERS!!

It is not sad at all. Idiots like you won't hang around here once third
party software is no longer developed!

Idiots like you should spend more time in pubs, brothels and night clubs
than here where intellectual ability is more important than knowledge about
some fringe free software that does nothing but ruin peoples systems.

GOOD RIDANCE!!

If you set a Vista disk in the CD tray upside down,
you can hear SATANIC VOICES!
But that isn't the worst of it,
if you set it the right way IT INSTALLS VISTA!

Thanks for your response, everyone. I see enough range here to give it a
run but to be prepared for the worst, so I guess I'll just take another
restore checkpoint and give it a go. I appreciate the input, and will let
you know how it goes.
