What a mess this program has become.

1. I have setup Spybot to protect my homepage from being hijacked. Ad-Aware
SE detected this as a browser hijack attempt.

2. I also have Spybot set to prevent Internet Options from being opened in
Internet Explorer. Ad-Aware SE also detected this as a browser hijack
attempt.

3. In my Favorites folder I have two sites that perform a reverse telephone
book lookups. One for Canada, the other for the USA. Ad-Aware SE identified
these 2 URLs as problematic and possible homepage hijack attempts.

4. This was the worst. When I decided to try a complete scan (I performed a
smart scan first) within a few minutes AVG popped up with:

Virus

Virus Identified Java/Byte Verify

is found in file

C:\DOCUME~1\USERNAME~1\Temp\AATWTMP\C2365468\Counter.class

I ran a Complete Scan with AVG but it found nothing. So I tried running
another complete scan with Ad-Aware SE. Sure enough AVG came up with the
same message again. I have never seen this message before. I had run a
Complete Scan with AVG only a couple of hours before downloading Ad-Aware
SE, no problems were found. I have now uninstalled Ad-Aware SE.

If your positive something is save, rightclick and put them in the
ignorelist, so you won't be bothered with it again the next time you run
Ad-Aware.

Strange, no such thing here with AVG, I'm on win98SE, sounds like you're on
XP, could be a XP/Ad-Aware conflict of some kind.

Unlike you, I'm very pleased with this new version of Ad-Aware, it runs much
faster and as it seems with less resource-use on my system.

I know how to add to the ignore list. The problem is the silly things that
it detects, that I fine bothersome.

What a mess this program has become.

1. I have setup Spybot to protect my homepage from being hijacked.
Ad-Aware SE detected this as a browser hijack attempt.

2. I also have Spybot set to prevent Internet Options from being
opened in Internet Explorer. Ad-Aware SE also detected this as a
browser hijack attempt.

Didn't it do this before? In any case, such a restriction is commonly
done by malware as well, so Ad-aware detects this just to be safe. Feel
free to ignore this.

3. In my Favorites folder I have two sites that perform a reverse
telephone book lookups. One for Canada, the other for the USA.
Ad-Aware SE identified these 2 URLs as problematic and possible
homepage hijack attempts.

4. This was the worst. When I decided to try a complete scan (I

Hmm I thought there was a warning about turning off your antivirus before
scanning with ad-aware ?

Downloaded it. Then I uninstalled ver. 6.0 (personal) and installed
this new SE version. When I ran "Check for updates now" and pressed
"Connect", I got the following:

"A newer Ad-Aware SE version is available.
Installed 1.01
Available 1.03
Please redownload from the same link you used for 1.01."

Yet when I try redownloading the installation file, all I can get is 1.01.

Anybody else having this problem?

When I update it offers me 1.02 . Download only offers 1.01 . My guess is,
there's a new version on it's way soon, very soon. They have at least one
bug to fix. Each time I open it and update, it downloads the same update, it
doesn't recognizes the update as already installed. Well, I'll wait and see.

And when you download the new 8/10 Definitions File, update AA SE,
close and reopen AA SE, it says the old 8/9 Definitions File is
loaded.
Looks like they've got some bugs to work out.

Exactly the same, except it offers 1.02.

Rod,
Yep, I'm having that additional problem with the update too.

Just uninstalled 1.01, downloaded 1.02 from Majorgeeks and installed
it. No more problems. I hope when a new defintion comes out that the
"Check for update" feature doesn't open Lavasoft's home page in
Internet Explorer like 1.01 was doing. If it does, I'll uninstall
Ad-Aware permanently.

I use Mozilla and have it set as the default browser.

You were just ahead of me, installed 1.02 (I like the way it uninstalls 1.01
first), no more problems.
Strange that it opens the homepage on update on your system, it doesn't here
and also 1.01 didn't. I have MyIE2 as default browser, and Kerio blocking IE
to access the internet (yes, I know.....and yes, it does make a difference
on firewalltests). Very strange. You might want to post this in their forum
if the problem continues, the problems we discussed here where mentioned
there and they responded interested and with the solution.

It's most likely that this behavior (opening IE when you check for
updates) is intentional on the part of Lavasoft. However, if enough
people complain about it, perhaps they'll reconsider.

Oh yeah, I should mention that because there hasn't been an update to
1.02 yet, I'm not even sure that the behavior occurs in that version.

Rod, you are correct. "No updated components available."

Bad choice of words on my part I suppose.
