Ad-Aware and norton

I just realized that when i installed Ad-Aware, it disable Norton Antivirus
2004. But whenever I click on enable to re enable it, it just stays off. I
tried clicking options then check off enable Auto-Protect, and then click ok,
but whenever I go back to the options it unchecks itself and Norton is still
off. Is it a virus that is stopping it? What do i do?

I've not seen Ad-Aware ever do anything to Norton but the symptom's you
described are those of a virus turning off NAV. Try running a full scan of
NAV. If you're infected, NAV will not run or you'll get some other error
saying NAV is not available. If that is the case, go to the
www.Symantec.com site and run the on-line virus scan and/or the McAfee site
and do the same thing.

Once it finds out what is causing the problem (if it is a virus or a
Trojan), you can then search the site for removal and repair instructions.

I don't think Ad-aware turned this off as some worms,
like w32.beagle turn off anti-virus software.
go to start>run type in services.msc
Check to see if Norton auto protect is both started and
on automatic. Mostly all Norton and Symantec services are
automatically started, depending on your configuration
and options.

Do a complete scan with NAV in safe mode. Other options are to run
Trend Micro's Sysclean and McAfee Stinger:

For viruses, start with Trend Micro's Sysclean and McAfee’s Stinger.
Download them and the Sysclean signature file. Turn off system restore,
boot into safe mode and run them. Boot back into normal mode and run a
full AV scan with your normal AV program. Then turn system restore back
on.

Norton is very sensitive. with many applications, YOU must disable it
personally before installation or you'll run into the problem you
encountered. try uninstalling the ad- ware then get your norton up and
running again. then deactivate it yourself before reinstalling the ad-ware
