Would like to know if there are any known issues running
Ad-Aware 6.0 on a Win2000 Terminal Server also running
Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 with about 25 users? Is it a good
idea to do this once a week or so?

Better to just lock down the server so users can't install spyware... If users don't have sufficient permission to create directories on the TS local hard drives, specifically "C:\" & "C:\Program Files" they won't be able to install spyware, malware or other software

If you're suspicious of sypware check out http://www.spywareinfo.com/xscan.php every once in a while

Patrick,

Can not lock down the server at this time. It is a great
idea but can not happen at this time. Unfortunately this
production TS has a lot on it and locking things down
might result in downtime ( which we can not have right
now ). April is another story!

So, you think that Ad-Aware is a bad idea on a TS and
suggest www.spywareinfo.com/xscan.php instead?

Patrick,

Point well taken. I will do the on-line scan instead of
installing a piece of software on the TS. I like that
idea and your reason even better ;-)

Point very well taken. Setting up the security first
would have been a much better idea than trying to patch
things up after the fact. And that would certainly result
in software not working and hearing about it from the
users! Not a very good career move! I have looked at a
lot of the posts here in this newsgroup and will implement
your suggestions on the C:\ and C:\Program Files on the
next TS that I build. This was my first one so I am
learning. Did not have the luxury of a test lab to make
my mistakes there!

I'm not saying AdAware is a bad idea, I just think it's a
band-aid to a larger problem. If they have a corporate
version that allows you to set the restrictions for all
users that would be better than something that users could
inadvertently choose the incorrect setting on.
The online scanner I quoted would be something that you
could run on a regular basis w/o having to install a piece
of software on the TS.
I realize the situation you're in and would highly
recommend planning a build of your system that starts
secure, instead of trying to add security after the fact,
which would likely do exactly what you fear (break
programs).
