AD as only Dir Service?

I am involved in a company merger and wanted to post a question regarding
AD. Can AD be the directory platform for a company that will need to tie
together mainframe (IBM), unix (Solaris), Oracle? I will have the
opportunity (along with my team) to build this from the ground up and wanted
to get any ideas or any information on what others have done and seen. Your
thoughts will be appreciated...

AD in combination with MIIS should do the trick. You might want to take a
look at ADAM too, you'll find these tehnologies here:
www.microsoft.com/ad
www.microsoft.com/miis

I've had a read of the ADAM whitepaper and had a look at the multimedia
presentation.

Is ADAM scalable and stable enough to be used as an enterprise LDAP store
(with hundreds of thousands of entries)? Is it being pitched as a direct
competitor to products such as Sun One?

The whitepaper outlines a few usage scenarios but is not quite clear (to me
anyway) on the above.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Best Wishes,

It's been tested with millions of objects, personally I've tested 1.2
million in my lab, and it works fine. I don't have any official numbers from
MS that I can present here.

Regards,
/Jimmy
