Actual Specs for 9800XT ?

I just bought a new ATI 9800XT video card.
I have noticed different specs on the same card.
Some have been advertised as high as-----Memory Core 730.0 Clock of 412.0
Mine is 384.8 core and a memory of 270.0

What are your setting ? I found out mine by using Future Mark 3D2003

Have you been able to use the ATI Tool to overclock yours ?
I have really bad artifacts if I try and use the ATI Tool.
But have not noticed any when doing any 3D games.
But they did show up when the Future Mark ran the pixel test..

The default clock speeds for the 9800XT is
Core: 412 MHz
Memory: 365 MHz (730 effective)
What are your setting ? I found out mine by using Future Mark 3D2003

ATiTool should tell you the current clock speed on your card. Does it match
what 3DMark 2003 reports? If both indicate 384.8/270.0 then you likely
didn't get a 9800XT. Was this a new retail boxed card, or a used one from
eBay?

ATiTool's artifact tester is more vigorous than any game. However, you
shouldn't try to overclock this card. You paid for a 9800XT but got
something substandard. Exchange it.

385 core and 270 memory stock clockings? There's no card in the 9800 family
with default speeds anything like that. Use ATI Tool to determine default
clock rates. As was mentioned, 412 and 365 are 9800XT default. A 9800 Pro is
380 and 680. Most cards show an actual speed of a couple of mhz below this.
 
I am now downloading the new Omega drivers and changing a few things to see
if it gets better..

I think you buyed a 9800XT Lite card so that's why your results are like
this.
Does your card even have 256MB and a 256-bit bus ?
Lite models were primarily made by Sapphire and very few others made them.

If you say you just bought a NEW card, return it. You problem is not normal.
Get a replacement
 
Just downloaded the latest Omega drivers and did a few suggestions. Then I
found the following statement on their site..

AFAIK 'Lite' cards as made by Sapphire are the same as 'Retail' ones -
they just don't have the software bundle that comes with the Retail
model.

You are correct. It's the identical 9800XT with standard XT clockings.

Oh,my bad then but I do know that there were some 128MB ,128bit 9800XT
out there.Especialy because I saw some on sale in a local shop just a
month ago. Didn't catch the name of the manufacturer though :)

I double checked the add. And it only says 400Mhz memory clock and a core
clock of 400Mhz. So I probably did get what I paid for :(.

But I would say to stay away form the EBay sites 99store.com and
imagestore.com, as they both are the same one and their return policy sucks.
And on the 99store.com.com site it is impossible to find any return or
contact info. I think I will stick with newegg.com/ I have never had any
problems with them on anything. And their delivery service is a lot better.

I think I might check into upgrade offer thru ATI ?

Well,actualy you got one of those cards I was talking about ,only this
one had 256MB. And you paid too much for it :)
You could've gotten a Geforce 6600GT that would blow any 9800XT out of
the water and especially your 128-bit model.
Sorry but you got ripped off!

File a complaint to ebay. Try to have a compensation or even cancel the
deal. The add says 400 core clock, you have 385 something. Add says 400
memory clock, you have 270. It is mis represented. And the card has full of
artifacts. I mean try, it doesn't cost you anything.

Your card is a made in china, from Microze Technology Development Co., Ltd.
.. you got ripped. If you don't get any compensation, let this be a wakeup
call to always know what you're bidding on.

At a guess, you've been sold a lower spec card with the BIOS flashed
to identify itself as an ATI 9800XT and clocked back to what it
actually is. It is a 'Built by ATI' card and identifies itself as an
ATI 9800XT in Device manager?

Ah, no! Looking at the ebay page you linked to, it's _not_ a 'Built
by ATI' card - it's an 'AGPtek' one.

It _does_ say 400MHz core and memory clocks, so you do have grounds
for complaint, as I see it.

Unfortunately, I don't think ATI will upgrade it as it's not one of
their cards. I don't know much about the upgrade program, as I'm not
in North America and hence not eligible.

Your best bet would be to check out returning the card: I would have
thought that if you bought it off an ebay shop, they should be
offering return/contact details; if not, complain to ebay.

Their shop site does say "Customer service & return policy All item
come with 45 day replacement warranty We guarantee each item to be

How did you pay for the card? If it was by Paypal or similar, or by
credit card, you may be protected by them - check it out. I don't
think they'll agree to help if you haven't tried returning it and been
refused, though.

And remember, _particularly_ on ebay, read the whole page thoroughly
and check out the vendor (feedback especially) before you buy! ;-)

Double-checking the listing now is a bit late. :-) Anyway, it did say
"Memory Interface 128-bit", so it's definitely not a proper 9800XT.

ATi's trade-in offer is not worthwhile unless you have something really old
(like a Rage I). This is because the prices at the ATi Store are higher than
other online retailers.

Mine is showing 385/540

I have turned them into EBay for selling a fake ATI card. It is not up to
the ATI specs that I have seen everywhere on the Internet and on the reviews
of the card I have been able to find for the proof for EBay.. If I can get
my money back, then I will get a good video card. Does anybody have any
recommendations out there ! I mainly do Flight Simulator 2004 and am willing
to pay up to $200

The 9800XT is *supposed* to have a memory clock of 365DDR (730) and core
clock of 412. The only difference between any of the 9800 cards is the
amount of memory on the card (128 or 256) and the core and memory speeds.
Your card is WAY out of spec and definitely NOT running at 9800XT speeds.

A proper 9800XT has a 256-bit memory interface. The fact that the auction
listing specified "128-bit memory" should have tipped you off that this is
not a real 9800XT.

That alone is not basis for fraud considerations on eBay. You need to
demonstrate that the card is either defective, or different than the item
description. i.e. It's giving artifacts at default speeds. The clock speed
is 385/540, not 400/400 as advertised. etc.

For $200, Geforce 6600GT or ATi X700 Pro.
