Hi

on the 1 July, I had to change server and since then there is no message at
all showing in the newsgroups, somenody told me to reset the messages so I
did a Catch-Up for all the newsgroups, but still there is nothing showing

I am now wondering if the server is not a dud or something like that

Any help would be very much appreciated

BTW this is not my ISP server since no ISP in Canada provide newsgroup
server so I have to use new.motzarella.org

Catch-Up will mark all messages as read. You need to do a re-set
(different).

Shaw provides newsgroups... I'm using them right now. Cable. Do you not
have Shaw in your area?

Dave,

It seems he does not get the newsgroups at all, while his postings do arrive
here. I already told him via that e-mail address he shows to check out
Google groups. I use that as an alternate if Usenut goes flat (almost never
here).

He's using what were known as 'Motzarella', now, since 1st July, called
'Eternal-September', the same as I am. It is far superior to Google groups.

I've seen a few posts in groups where people aren't seeing any posts and I
have absolutely no idea why. I changed over the server name a week or two
early and everything turned out as expected. Also, since 1st July everything
is fine. Perhaps he messed up something in the settings. His same password
etc. from Motzarella should work just fine with Eternal September, as mine
did. You just have to delete the subscribed groups and then re-subscribe to
the ones you want, it's not rocket science.

I've also emailed Loek with instructions on how to do it. <shrug>

The email I received states thusly:

Dear users of Motzarella.org,

for technical reasons the Motzarella reader servers

news.motzarella.org,
nntp.motzarella.org,
reader.motzarella.org,
reader80.motzarella.org and
reader443.motzarella.org

have been replaced by the following servers:

news.eternal-september.org
reader80.eternal-september.org and
reader443.eternal-september.org

I setup a new account in my newsreader for news.eternal-september.org, since
the nntp.motzarella.org was no longer being used.

It requires a log in, so I input my user name and p/w and was good to go.
News groups were received and alt.games.microsoft . . . was one of the the
groups.

One potential reason is article numbers.

If "Loek" has emailed him, that is all we can do. Hope
he eventually uses Google, to see if anyone responded to
him. It's not like he's going to see these replies, if
there is an article numbering problem at his end.

Thank You in Advance
Merci a l'avance

There is little point in responding to this. Even google doesn't work to
search usenet anymore. But in case anyone else is reading this and has the
same problem, you need to DELETE the motzarella account from your news
client. Then add it again. That's what worked for me, and has worked for
others. -Dave

Yep. Worked for me too, Dave. I have been communicating with Martin by
e-mail trying to get him sorted out. I did not think about it, but he might
be attempting to revise his original account setting. I assumed he new to
add a new account, but likely I should assume nothing.

Scuse me for being dumb here, but what bit of usenet can't you search
through Google? I've just been using GoogleGroups to read my old posts.

Well, we'd have to go all the way back to dejanews to answer that. Bottom
line is though, I bet I could post this today, search for it TOMORROW on
Google, and not find it. Depending on what keywords I used for the search,
I'll get millions of unrelated WEB links. Google sucks. You can't use
google to search usenet. You get ZERO relevant results. I count only
usenet posts as relevant results. -Dave

Yeah, I'm in email contact with him too and I got the impression that he did
in fact try to modify his settings. I just wrote to him 20 minutes ago and
told him to delete his motzarella account and set up a new one.

When I changed from motzarella to eternal-september it seemed like there
were no groups available until I went into my Thunderbird software and
changed my server settings for the new account.

The default seems to have the setting: "Always request authentication
when connecting to this server" unchecked. I had to check it, and THEN I
could subscribe to all the groups again.

This may be the issue.

Could well be, as I had to do the same. I went for 443 because Tiscali
blocks 119 in the evenings.

Hi PeterC,

Amazing what you learn on this n/g, mate - I didn't know that about
pins! :-))
