I've tried searching but can't find a solution for my problem. I'm running
XP SP2 and IE6 SP2. When I install an ActiveX app (like Macromedia Flash) it
works fine and shows in the "View Objects" portion of Internet Options. When
I clear my temp files it deletes all ActiveX except for the Shockwave 10
player - so I have to reinstall Flash and any other add in everytime I clear
my temp files. This never happened before. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the tip but that isn't the problem. My TIF is showing what you
listed and also when I click on "view objects" it shows the path you listed,
so they are in two separate folders. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, but it made me think of a few questions.

"I've found information in Microsoft's download pages that says that IE6 SP1
should not be added to Windows XP. Perhaps the same applies to using SP2 w/IE
6?"

If that is the case, what version do I use? Does XP really need to use an
old version of IE? That doesn't make sense - if I shouldn't use SP1 or SP2
with IE6 on XP then why does it show as an automatic update? Shouldn't
Microsoft know about incompatibilties like that and not make an update
available if it will mess things up?

Hi David,

On the Internet Options General tab - Temporary Internet Files - Settings
Dialog there is an button to Move Folder. It also shows the current location
for your Temporary Internet Files which is usually Drive:\Documents and
Settings\{Current User name}\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

You downloaded Active controls however are usually saved to Drive:\{Windows
Folder}\Downloaded Program Files

My only guess is to make sure that you have not changed the Temporary
Internet Files (TIF) location to that of your Downloaded Program Files

I trust I have been of assistance.

Hi David,

I had a look at my TIF on an XP machine. 3ms... I was just recently prompted
to update Macromedia flash to 8.0.22.0 which has been installed.
Is that your current version?

One thing about my pc is that I have 5 entries for the same version of the
Sun Java RT. But that is beside the point.

The only other thing that I can guess at is = check the Properties of the
Downloaded Program Files. Mine is not using compression? Its a wild guess...
I suppose you could also try making the folder read-only that would stop any
rogue process deleting its contents.

No.
SP1 doesn't need to be installed before SP2.
SP2 most definitely should be installed.
