WindowsXP
IE 6

Sometimes pages will not load properly so I was told to use Firefox when I
need those pages because Firefox does not use ActiveX controls. What exactly
are they and can they be turned off in IE when the page isn't launching
correctly.

Thank you.

"DestructiveX", er...um, "ActiveX" controls are MSFT's counterpart to the
Netscape invention, "JavaScript" (not to be confuse with Sun's "Java",
which is an entirely different object).

"ActiveX" can be controlled through the Internet Options. You can tighten
security by disabling it for the "Internet" zone, and you can loosen
permissions for sites added to the "Trusted sites" zone.

Internet Options, Security Tab. Select the zone from the list; use the
"Custom Level..." button to adjust the scripting permissions. When the
"Trusted sites" zone, or the "Restricted sites" zone, is selected, you can
add sites. For the "Trusted sites" zone you will probably have to uncheck
the box for "HTTPS sites only" to make any additions.

If there are any sites, such as "doubleclick.com/doubleclick.net", that you
don't with your browser to have any interaction with, you can add them to
the "Restricted sites" zone, with all of the permissions in the "Custom
Level..." list denied.

Thanks Norman.. :)
