I have been using Active Sync 4.2 with no problems for months (WM 5.0 & xp).
Suddenly it stopped working. It sees my device, but it says it cannot
establish a connections. Ihave already done the following:

1. Done each item on the trouble shooter checklist (including checking to
make sure usb ok was selected on the device and on the pc;

2. Checked the firewall and anti virus settings I even disabled them to make
sure;

3. Uninsalled Active Sync COMPLETELY, including deleting the left over file
in Program files, and then reinstalled (I did this 3Xs, twice with 4.5 beta)

4. I did system restore twice to dates prior to last successful sync;

5. I did a soft restart on my PPC and rebooted the PC each time.

HELP!!

Try the ActiveSync newsgroup. This isn't an Outlook issue.
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync

It is because Active Sync is supposed to work with outlook and without it it
is outlook is useless to many of us.

Because it's useless to you without ActiveSync does not mean its useless to
others without it. All sync issues are the purview of the sync software and
if you want to stand a chance of getting a definitive answer, visit the
correct newsgroup.

I am replying to my own post to help others with this problem. It turns out
that the problem was generated by the PDA somehow. So I did a hard restart,
wiping out my phone and resetting to factory settings. (first I backed up to
my smart card and took it out of the phone). Anyway, after this the sync
worked again.

I hope this helps others. I have scoured the internet and other news groups
(thanks anyway Brian) without an answer although I see that many others have
had a similar thing happen to them with all versions of Active Sync for years.

Good luck all.
