What evactly do you mean by 'back up'? There is a utility
called ldifde that can give you a list of all of your
users in AD? Are you familiar with ldifde?

On one of your DCs you would simply open up a command
prompt and enter ldifde /? for a list of all the options.

I might suggest that you use the following:

ldifde -f ADUsers.ldf -r "(objectClass=user)"

Thank you for your post!

I recommend you export the container, or OU containing the users. Also keep
in mind the user accounts will create new SIDs, if you are importing into a
new directory.
