Friend's computer has that message.....

Security settings prevent Active X.......page may not display
properly.

Can not get Windows to update. SP2 was never installed. Keep running
into this problem.

Running XP Home Edition.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bruce

Windows Update Fails:
Click on START and the RUN put in each line seen below and clicked on
OK. (do each one line at a time)
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuapi.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuaueng.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\System32\atl.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\System32\wucltui.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\System32\wups.dll
Disable your anti-virus when obtaining the updates.
Make sure that your firewall is allowing the connection to Windows Update .
This would be on ports 80 and 443.

I have the same problem, posted the last week on two windows update
sites and below somewhere

I would like to try your solution but do you have the equivalent list
for win2k (there is no wuapi.dll to start with anywhere on c: let alone
in c:\winnt)
Thanks for the feedback.

I don't know any reason why Win2K would be different.
What error message do you get?

Please start your own thread. Your problem is too dissimilar from
the OP. The suggested solution was for a WUv5 user.
Because of your OS you are stuck at WUv4.

A problem is that many helpers have lost their technical edge on WUv4
issues. Have you tried posting in your OS NG? You might find more
common experience that way.

BTW have you tried the WUv4 troubleshooter?
You can find different sets of re-registrations in it.
(e.g. when searching for 8007007e )

Tip: instead of using that page's hard to use search tool
I suggest you first press Ctrl-a,Ctrl-c and paste the entire source
into a Notepad window where you can do simple text finds in it.

Also learn how to use Google Groups to research your problems.
E.g. you could probably find some more suggestions about the
your issue in older threads than are currently archived by the server
by using something like:

V4 "administrators only" (MVP OR MSFT) group:microsoft.*.windowsupdate

Good luck

I have a couple of threads of my own with no useful help, I was trying
to connect up with a person who seemed to know

It was an IE6 / active X problem: correct group
