I have been having a problem updating and reinstalling
Mcafee Virus Scan online. I keep getting an error message
telling me that I need to change my security options
which are correct for Active X to run. So in my search
for an answer I noticed a damaged Active X file listed
system32/comet.dll
I am trying to find out if this could be the problem and
if so how do I download Active X again on my computer or
just the driver files?
I have Windows XP Home Edition, 256 rdram, 1.7Ghz HP
Pavilion.
Along with this problem I notice IE not being able to
download files from the Internet. Stating the website is
unavailable or file no longer exists? I know the download
sites are good but IE can not find them or recognize the
command?

I brought up this issue since this problem has just
materialized as well. Any help somone can give me to get
this working is much appreciated. Mcafee did not have the
answer as of yet and they suggesed I contact Microsoft.

Thank you,
John McMullan

I am having the same problem, and have not been able to
get a reasonable diagnosis and fix.

When AT&T switched the network to Comcast, our Windows XP
machine was unable to access secure websites - https.
Comcast has never responded to our support requests.

More recently I ran Spybot to clean up all of the
parasite programs that had almost shut down the computer,
and afterwards ActiveX would not work at all.

I have run all of the suggested fixes in MS KnowledgeBase
and worked through Spybot's technical forum, but with no
results. Hope you (and I) have better luck here, but I
don't expect much!
