Active sync.

I already know the answer to this, I think, but I have a customer who wants
to connect a load of portables to a PC, but they can't install any software.
This includes Active Sync.

Yes, I know this is a rediculous situation, but that's what I've got to work
with.

The only thing I can think of, is to set up the RF on each portable and use
a network share to store portable data.

Anyone any other ideas?

Sounds like, you need to start exploring mobile line of business
applications. Check out my blog at www.binaryrefinery.com (not
meant as a sales pitch), but think about the power you have at your
finger tips. SQL Compact and .Net Compact Framework apps. Micro
browser portals delivered by internet explorere mobile, its all open
to you. Go forth and have a hell of a lot of fun in the process...

So you're basically sending data through sockets?

I have thought of writing a small socket application to handle multiple
portables, as there is little on the market. Basically a Host app that
listens for instructions from the portable and returns data from a database.
Basically sending SQL commands to the host, the host would act.

The problem is it means a thick app on the portable. I'll have a dig
through your site and see if there's any inspiration there!

Thanks.
