active scripting

Hi and merry Chritsmas to all! My problem is that when I turn active
scripting on IE crashes with a send error report. I've tried everything.
Used HijackThis, Spybot, Adaware and no malware appears present. I've
installed new VM and new script engine. I've reinstalled IE as far as I can
following advice on this group. I've removed service pack 2. It's really
driving me nuts this one. I can't roll back to a point where IE doesn't have
this fault. Any advice would be very gratefully received.

Was your anti-virus turned off during the install of SP2? If not, then
reinstall it with the anti-virus turned off.
