Active directory restore

Is it possible to only restore active directory and not
the system state as well - i ask this becaus I have backed
up the system state ( which includes the AD ) on a domain
controller and want to restore it on a different
make/model of server in a disaster recovery site - Nt
backup will not let me restore just the AD - it appears as
if you must select the entire system state - I did this
and as expected the server hung ( i presume this was
because the system state holds the registry etc. of the
original server)???

If you toggle from Origonal Location to Alternate Location, you can then move
the files.
