Anyone knows whether there are any problems changing the machine name in win
XP client connecting to a win2k active directory?

much thanks.

Oh, you'll lose the AD account - so you'll have to re-join it - it's not a
problem if you're a domain admin!

.....and you know the local admin credentials, so you don't lock yourself out
:-)

does that mean that I have to un-join the machine from AD, change machine
name then re-join AD again?

Hello Max,

You can change the machine name with no problem. If the machine belongs in
an AD domain then I would suggest that you logon to the domain from that
computer as the domain and then change the name. This should allow you to
effectively change the name and still remain a member of the domain.

Hello Max,

Just make sure that you are the doman admin. You should not have to
un-join the computer from the domain in order to change the computer name.
