Hello all,
I'm having an issue that has recently been uncovered at my office regarding
our Windows 2000 Server (Active Directory PDC). The problem started when we
tried formatting/ghosting machines and having them connect to the domain at
first startup but getting various messages saying the domain controller
could not be found. I did personally see that the network drivers, cards,
cables, etc were in place and working fully. The issue was traced back to
the Win2000 domain server where event viewer showed ALOT of errors.
When clients tried to connect some of the errors in the Application Log were
"Windows cannot determin the user or computer name..." Also the System Log
contained the following errors, "Dynamic registration of deregistration of
one or more DNS servers failed with the following error: No DNS servers
configured for local system". I have stopped and started the DNS server,
rebooted afterwards but unfortunately this does not seem to help. It
appears that there is something severely wrong with Active Directory and DNS
right now causing it not to be able to register clients when they connect or
to properly join/disconnect from the domain.
Any advice on what to do? Remove the domain, rebuild it? Setup a BDC and
completely redo the main PDC?
