i have an aspire 1300 which comes with xp home edition as
standard

when i came to re install windows (due to my cousin
deleting windows files),i noticed that the original
recovery disks were damaged beyond repair.

due to this i had to install the xp home using the disks
from a dell pc

is there any way i can activate this legally as acer want
to charge me for another copy of the disks

No. You'll have to obtain the Acer Restore CDs and use them
along with the Acer provided Product Key.

You can activate this using the CD Rom you installed AS
LONG AS WINDOWS XP ON THE DISK IS NOT BEING USED ON ANY
OTHER COMPUTER

In regard to the message I just sent I would STORNGLY
advise you NOT to use the DELL CD on your ACER computer as
it may contain Drivers for the Dell PC and could "muck" up
settings on your comptuer, and it will become hard to fix
it.
I would advise you to contact Acer and ask for a Restore
Disk for your system.

You should be able to activate Windows fine as long as you
use the product key from the Aspire system rather than the
Dell system
I would follow a fellow poster and invest in the restore
CD's it will be much easier in the long run
