What happens if Windows XP is not activated within the time limit. Can it
be activated after that date and, more crucially, can Windows XP be used
without having to re-install it?

Windows XP has a 30 day grace period before you need to
activate. After 30 days, you'll be requested to activate or
else you'll be unable to boot to the Windows XP desktop.

hi,

Activation is required for the Windows XP, when u r not
activating ur windows XP u will be able to work for only 30 days from
the installation date
after that it will prompt for activation and without activating it
won't allow u to enter into ur PC(i.e., u will be not able to login).
U can re-intall the OS then also itwill come to end of the
installtion and once agin the same window(activation window) will
appear and it won't allow u to further operations.
Other thing is u can format the drive and install once again
the Windows XP OS and u r not activating then same thing only after 30
days of the installation date it will prompt for activation and it
won't allow u to login.
