I had Office XP installed on a laptop computer that has long crashed. I
installed the software on another computer, but cannot activate it. What do I
need to do?

Patricia, thanks for the reply. What do I do if I live in an area with no
phone access? I am on a sattelite internet connection, but have to drive 5
miles to a phone ( I live in the jungle of Belize). If I call, I'll be on
hold forever, and I can only get phone cards long enough to last about 10
minutes. any ideas?

Unfortunately, if you get the message that it can't be activated over the
internet, you'll need to call. It should only take a few minutes for the
call and you'll need to be in front of the computer when you make the call,
to enter the numbers.

Note that if the copy of office is OEM and came with the laptop, you
probably won;t be able to activate it over the phone either, as OEM copies
are tied to the computer they came with. Retail versions are usually allowed
two activations - read the EULA to see what type of license you have and how
many computers it can be activated on.
