Hello,

I am trying to activate Windows Vista RC1 and I noticed a link under My
Computer/System Properties that says 2 days until automatic activation.
Activate Now. When I click on the link nothing happens. How can I activate
this? Please help.

What exactly do yo mean? My internet is always connected. The link is not
working to activate though? Do you know any other ways to activate?

Just leave it alone and it will auto activate in 2 days.

What do you mean auto activate? Don't I have to put in an installation ID
and my product key to actiavte? What did you have to do? Thanks...

You would have entered your product key when you installed the OS, I
think it was on the 2nd or 3rd screen during install. Now if you leave
it alone it will activate when you are online. I have an always on ADSL
connection and I did nothing and it now reads 'Windows is activated' I
did this for both my x86 and x64 installs using the same key.

And this is with RC1? Did you have the same issue as me? Was it in a link
where it said Automatically activate in 2 days. Activate now. I just don't
want my OS to be lost. Thanks.

Exactly the Same Mike running RC1 x86 and x64, I seem to remember mine
counting down from 3 days.

Are you positive it will automatically activate itself without me doing
anything? Also, after vista expires in june 07 I assume we will have to get
the final release version, correct? Thanks again.

Ok, how come I was told you need to activate it with an installation id and
your product key? So, yours will expire though in June of 07?

Nothing in this world is absolutely positive but if you have correctly
entered the Key and the install is good then all should be OK. Yes we
will have to BUY the final release version, if we want it that is, or
like me wait till SP1/SP2 is issued and then buy a new machine.

So, you never hit the Click now to activate link? How come I was told i
needed an installation id? Thanks.

No

I don't know, but whoever told you was incorrect.

Dear Charlie
When I installed my RC1 I haven't entered the key...
I came for it in MS site a day after...
Now i'm having the same problem... Only have 3 days...

I was questioned in the 2nd or 3rd screen what version i was installing and
as a Professional I choose Business...
Now the key I got from MS doesn't work...
Do you know something about it?

The CPP keys from Microsoft are only for the Ultimate Edition. You will not
be able to activate any other edition with an Ultimate key.

(If you had entered the key during install, Ultimate would have been
installed. The edition installed depends on the key.)
