activation problem after reinstall

I reformated and reinstalled vista yesterday and when I tried to activate
online again a message popped up saying "The product key you typed is already
in use". I didn't make any hardware changes. I tried using the automated
phone system to activate, but it fails as well. It says it will connect me to
a human but it keeps disconnecting me. How do I reactivate?
 
Call (866) 234-6020 and explain your issue to a Microsoft support specialist.

Minor pedantic correction ... that phone number only applies in the USA (and
maybe, Canada?)

When you get the "already in use" error in Windows, follow the links in the
dialogue to get the right phone number for your region.
