How can I install my Windows XP on both my desktop and
notebook without having to buy 2 disks?

As with all previous Microsoft consumer operating systems, one license
one computer.
If you want to install it on two computers, you need to buy two
copies.
Nothing has changed with the exception now there is an enforcement
mechanism.

You can install and run,but you cant register it.The
current copy only recieves one license,w/o a license
xp wont run after 30 days.
