First I am very new to Windows and computers in general.
Recently I bought a new Compaq computer that came with
Windows XP home oem installed. I have another computer
(CUSTOM BUILT), which I needed to activate and used the
Compaq XP home license key (didn't know I legally had to
buy another) on the other computer. In other words, the
key works on both PCs even with all updates, at least for
now. After a friend told me to buy another license, which
I did, I formatted the hard drive of the CUSTOM PC and
activated it with a new legal license key. The problem is:
I need to return the Compaq PC. Since, another consumer
will buy this, I worry that HOME XP will not work for them
in the future since it was activated on another PC and
microsoft will hold me accountable. Is there a way to
deactivate the key from the CUSTOM PC, since it is no
longer in use or what should I do so this doesn't come
back to me?
