Hope someone can help, I spent 2 hours last night on the phone with so called
microsoft technicians to no avail...... I performed a safe rcovery on my
computer, now when I boot up, it gets as far as our user accounts... when I
click on my account, a box pops up and asks for windows to be activated, but
when I click on yes to activate, that's as far as it goes...goes to my screen
saver screen and nothing else... no icons, no start bar... . I have tried
every(?) possible option in safe mode, but none allow to activate windows in
safe mode.... there must be SOME way to activate windows without the start
bar.... Any suggestions?

Does Windows startup normally?
Did you just install Windows?

You can do a repair install.

yes, it starts slow, but normal......No, not newly installed..... I have done
a 'Full system recovery' before, whereby, once it was done, the activation
screen automatically popped up, filled in the info and away she went, no
problem..... but, this time, I didn't want to lose my data, so did the safe
one... I was told I would be able to access the internet in "safe mode for
networking".... but, it doesn't let you... cannot access in safe mode.....
so, have no way to access the internet either to look for a solution.....
Thanks for trying tho....

In safe mode with networking. click start\all programs\accessories\system
tools\activate windows and see what happens. You should also be able to use
the XP CD to boot back into the recovery console and attempt a fixboot but
try the first method and see if that helps. You should not have had to
reactivate. Post back if that doesn't work. TTFN.

Try repairing the registry entries for the .DLL files used by
activation:

Use Start- Run and enter the following text in the dialog box:
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll

Then do it again with the following text:
regsvr32.exe licdll.dll

Launch activation manually:
%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A

Good luck
