activating windows xp

i am attempting to activate windows xp on a new gateway computer.
the instructions ask me to go to start/all programs click accessories
go to systems tools and then click activate windows.
There is no "activate windows"!!!
i have also read to fo to the tray at the bottom, there is nothing there.
Windows xp is working but is it going to shut down in 30 days!!
does anyone know the 800 number to activate by phone? i cannot locate it
anywhere.

If the articles recommended by the others don't answer your
questions, maybe you should call Gateway for their tech
support. Since most mfg'rs install customized versions of
Windows and activate it at the factory, Gateway may have
hidden the activation module.

Enter this on the Start/Run line:

C:\Windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A

That will (should <g>) trigger the online activation screen; you can create
a shortcut using the above and replace the missing one in the System Tools
menu if you wish.
