Activating a hyperlink?

I was used to 'good' old dBase 3+ and Clipper and dont recognize anything in
Access! I have a simple requirement and would appreciate any help and
advice.
I have a large database of names, each with a 'date of birth' field to make
them unique and a third field of a hyperlink to the address of a multipage
tiff file.
I need to be able to search for a name and pull up the tiff file. Tiff files
are assigned to be opened on my system by a multipage viewer but I dont know
how to set up a simple search routine and then how I get the hyperlink to
open the file.
Can anyone advise please?

Birthdates aren't unique. I share mine with thousands (?!millions) of
people.

I believe you can set the data type of your "link" field to hyperlink. If
this doesn't work, take a look in Access HELP for "FollowHyperlink" for
other ideas...
