Action for embedded Excel object doesn't work during presentation

I'm creating a slide presentation. I set the object action for my embedded
excel object as "open", but when I viewed it in slide show view for
presentation and clicked the Excel object, it sort of appeared as if it's
about to open, but it kept closing away in the end (made it look like a
blink).

Did I miss any step? Any advice? I would highly appreciate your help/advice.

Is it opening behind the presentation? Press Alt+Tab and see what happens.

You might change it from "open" to "edit" and see if that makes any
difference.

As well as Echo's comments try linking to it. Does that work? I can repro
this behaviour with embedded excel objects but I never noticed it before,
maybe it's the recent hotfix for crashing graphs?

Same here -- it's worked for years. But not now.

Here, Excel opens on top of the presentation, the Excel file opens and
closes in a flash (!!), and a big blank Excel window remains open on top of
the presentation.

Yikes, that's nasty!

I'm using SP2 here, and I have the chart-crash hotfix installed. (You wanna
report it?)

Thanks, all.

I also tried with embedded Word and ended up with a big blank Word window on
top of the presentation, just like Echo S's Excel. I'm using SP2 as well. And
my computer is Vista + Office 2007 SP2. Well, I'm not sure about reporting
this. Actually it works when I tried it on another laptop with X Office with
no SP2 this morning.

I would be surprised if it's SP2. Do you have hotfix 975021 installed?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/975021 I think John and I are
wondering if this causes it.

You can see installed updates and hotfixes in Windows Control Panel,
Add-Remove Programs (or Programs and Features). Be sure to click the option
in that dialog to show updates.
