Consider this: one XP sP2 PC with 4 user accounts (all admin) - 3 have no
issue but 1 account gets the following issues;

when typing www.nba.com (US basketball site) loops back to about:blank but
if types http://www.nba.com can access site fine.

when on site and trying to watch game clips gets Action cancelled and Page
has stopped viewing (claims he gets thos on other sites but not seen myself)

no enterable boxes when launching search function, just stupid dog !

Have renamed and alos replaced hosts file ...in
windows\system32\drivers32\etc with no joy.

What am i missing ?!!!

For your first issue - see:

IE will not connect to a web page without manually typing http://
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/answers_8.htm#extension

The NBA sites uses different file types to play videos:
http://www.nba.com/help/faq.html#av - according to this, RealPlayer seems to
be predominant. QuickTime may also be used, and Flash, too. If you are
getting Action Cancelled error messages, make sure you don't have a
program/toolbar that has a feature that blocks Flash - like an ad or pop-up
blocker. More info here:
http://www.nba.com/broadband/it_faq.html - make sure cookies are enabled,
and that your firewall is set properly.

Using Regedit, browse to the following registry key and make sure the noted
setting is correct:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete]
"Append Completion"="yes"

also see the following values:

"Use AutoComplete"="yes"
"AutoSuggest"="no"

Click Start | Run and type
control inetcpl.cpl
Select Content tab, and click AutoComplete button
In the Use AutoComplete for section, put a checkmark near Web addresses
Click OK, OK to close the dialog.

Equivalent registry value for this setting

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete

Value named: AutoSuggest of type REG_SZ
Possible value-data: yes | no

You may have to Restart the computer.
