Acting "Flaky"

System is: WinXP Pro, 2GB RAM

After a recent update, MSAS has been acting weird. For
starters, many times when I start a program, I can get up
to eight systray icons. It slows down program startup a
lot. Those icons linger until I mouse over them; then,
they disappear.

Also, most times, scheduled scans fail. Looking in the
error.log file, I see multiple errors of type 0, 7. Also,
lately there are many 462 and 438 error, about the time I
started noting erratic app behavior.

I have had to turn MSAS off to get any kind of normal
system performance.

Uninstall and re-install did not help.

Which build of MSAS are you running? Also, I suspect its spyware on your PC
that MSAS is so slow. Restart you computer in safe mode, open Microsoft
AntiSpyware, on the scan page, choose scan options > Full System Scan >
(check boxes below) > click "Run Scan Now"

Also run these 3rd party AntiSpyware solutions in safe mode to help with any
removal:
Ad-Aware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html
Spy Sweeper - http://www.webroot.com
Ccleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com

Checked with MSAS, HijackThis, Trend's free tool, Spybot
and SpyFerret. Nothing.

Also, my system is quite fast unless MSAS is running. It
seems to keep restarting itself multiple times with every
app I open, thus slowing the opening of programs.
Otherwise, the programs run fine too.

Thanks for the help, though.

Try the following suggestion that many others have used
in the past with problems relating to the speed of scans
and system performance in general:

1. Close down MSAS.
2. Open a command prompt window, and type the command:

regsvr32 msvbvm60.dll

3. Restart Windows.
4. Launch MSAS and all should be well.
5. If that fails, install VB6 runtime files:

This should also help with 100% CPU usage problem.
