Acronis?

Sounds like you need something like this:
I personally don't use imaging or cloning programs, but I have read
messages that speak highly of that product.

If anybody has experience with Acronis I'd like to know how much care
and feeding it requires once you set it up. Thanks

Thanks. I take it you use this yourself and have a pointed
question about it. That is, how easy is it to manage? I ask
because I could never much more than walk and chew gum at the
same time, and since a stroke find things complicated that most
people, especially software reviewers, don't. If Acronis
requires a lot of tending I'd be in trouble with it. If it
pretty much takes care of itself, great.

Although you can set it up where it can do a lot of things itself - as with
anything else in life - there is a learning curve to new (to you) stuff.
Also - there can and may be trouble with your configuration, etc. You could
get 100 people telling you 100 different things about setting up TrueImage
or Ghost to make automatic backups of their systems or of their luck with
the built-in Windows XP backup utility or about making an image by booting
from a boot diskette/CD/etc (so you get a true disk image you can restore
from anytime) --> but until you start diving in and learning yourself -
you'll never truly know.

Read all about the products - download some trial software and utilize it -
if you have some other PC (than your main) - so much the better! This is
one of those times where you have to see what works best for you...

It could be that the interface and such of:
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

is best for the way you think, but then again:
http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/overview.jsp?pcid=br&pvid=ghost10

might be more up your alley... However:
http://www.xxclone.com/

could be all you need and be easier for you to understand/use/schedule...
Something from:
http://www.bootitng.com/

Might do all you really need and do it in a way you understand.

*You* have to try them, because *you* are the only one who knows what you
can use in the end.

Thanks. This is my biggest problem. There's a trap door in my brain
with an extremely light spring on it. When I read more than about a
page it opens and dumps everything out. :)

I use True Image 10 and found it very easy to setup and use right from the
start. Download the trial and give it a shot :-)

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I would also suggest using Ghost 2003 if you can find it. IT is easy to use
and very very reliable. I do NOT recommend the later versions of Ghost in
that they are much more complicated and not nearly as user friendly or
reliable.
I have been using Ghost 2003 since it came out and it has never failed me.
It has saved my bacon many times.

I tried Acronis because of it's reputation and found it to work nicely as
long as I did NOT try to save images to DVDs. It does take longer but the
setup is not difficult.

Having a good imaging software can be a life saver. Find one that works for
you and it gives you a great piece of mind.
