I thought that having a differential backup would be an advantage?

I've not installed it as it doesn't appear to be much of an upgrade even
from TI 7

Hi Acronis Backup users

A low priced upgrade to version 9 is available for Acronis True Image
version 8 users at their website. It has a number of improvements in
particular faster restoration.

However be careful, if you order the download on line and pay for it, the
invoice does contain the unlock code and the key for version 8 does NOT
UNLOCK version 9.
So you have a hassle with Acronis to get the unlock code - I have not
managed yet. A pity because otherwise it is a very good product but they
have always been week on support.

I started using True Image with version 7. It already has incremental backup
which appears to be the same as differential. I bought version 8 and was
disappointed to see nothing really new and it appears that version 9 doesn't
either. When they offer DVD and 64bit support I will upgrade but not
before. Check the forum here

Haven't tried it yet but did get the notice about the new version. Major
difference seems to be a backup utility is included in addition to the
imaging portion of the program. I see the warning about being sure to get a
version 9 key in a subsequent post so will look out for that when I upgrade
in a few weeks.

Differential Backup only looks at the changes since the last main backup and
will save space and time

Not really the same.

If the Acronis User's Guide wasn't copyrighted I could post the actual copy
from the User's guide.

Basically incremental is like system restore in that there is a base, plus
let's say daily files,
and you can restore to any selected point as long as all files are intact.
Can take up a lot of space if many points are saved.
Differential is the base plus one file which incorporates all changes since
the base.
Minimal space requirement.

Two different approaches depending on the user's desires.
At least a choice is available.

Speaking of choices.
There is also a Snap Restore that can save considerable time if you have a
20 or 30 GB Operating System imaged.
You can start using the restored image as soon as the system files are
restored.

I compare it to being able to use your computer while a backup is being
created, only in reverse.

The User Guide is a 2.278 MB download.
It can be downloaded from :
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/download/docs/

I have no connection with Acronis or any business advertising or selling
their products.

Just a happy user who dumped Drive Image after Norton bought Powerquest.

Yeah, but the problem is that ver. 8 is downloadable,
and ver. 9 is "The page cannot be displayed".

*TimDaniels*

TrueImage9.0_ug.en.pdf is the file name after downloading.
I just used the link and went there and downloaded it again.

The normal doubleclick didn't work and did bring up "The page cannot be
displayed".
However, right click and "Save Target As " worked just fine.
There might be a server overload problem.
It took a couple of seconds for the window to pop up.

Just went back and tried again.

No response to double click -- not even "The page cannot be displayed".

But again right click and Save Target As worked -- this time with a four
second delay.
