Acrobat pdf files won't display

In IE 6 (xp sp2), I can no longer display any pdf files. I just get a new
window with a place holder.

It worked fine until I upgraded acrobat by uninstalling the previous
versions and installing the new version download. Since that, the pdfs will
not display.

I removed and reinstalled acrobat a couple of times, last with a new install
file download. I uninstalled and reinstalled IE. I don't think it is an
acrobat problem, since it works fine in two other browsers I have. I
searched this ng and did not find a prior solution. I did search the
registry and found a couple of things pointing to earlier versions of the
reader, but I could not find the analogies in the current version files.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

Is the Adobe Acrobat plugin enabled? You can determine that using Manage Add-ons feature in IE6 SP2.

Hello Ramesh,

I have this add on: AcroIEHlprObj Class; and it is enabled. I did a search
for the file that it say is associated with it, and it and it found it under
the acrobat folder in program files. That is the only add on that seems
related to adobe anything.

Thanks,

Steve

Hello Silj,

I looked at the information in the link you provided, and I do not see how
that relates to my problem. It refers to the help, and I am referring to web
page content in pdf files. Also it refers to the "Internet Explorer
Information Bar". What is that?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

Launch the latest version of Adobe Acrobat reader, and click Edit menu. Choose Preferences. Uncheck "Display PDF in browser" option and click OK. Repeat the procedure and enable the option again.

Test here: http://www.winxptutor.com/netdiag.pdf

If it still does not work, try this

1. Type this command from Start/Run:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\ActiveX\pdf.ocx"

2. Export these two registry keys and post here:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/pdf
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf

Click Start/Run and type REGEDIT to launch Registry Editor.

If you've installed Adobe Acrobat Reader v6.x:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\ActiveX\pdf.ocx"

should be:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX\pdf.ocx"

Thank you so much Ramesh,

That registry key from start run fixed it.

Thank you again and the best wishes to you.

Thank you,

I do recall seeing that bar once. I did not find anything on it in help
though.

Steve

Have similar issue, tried to run the regsvr32 card. Failed. Verified path.

Found a CLSID registry entry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content
Type\application/pdf
with a value on a colleague's machine. Created this in my registry. Did
not help.

My registry entry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf was same as colleague.

Any other things I should pursue?

Thanks.

-Love the registry. . . .or leave it!
