Hi All,

I am trying to compile a list of the names of ACF volunteers for myself, so
I can determine which posts to trust.

Looking on the Pricelessware site helped, but it would really be helpful if
there was just a simple Volunteer list there.

So, I hope this is the correct place to post this wish. Thanks.

No such animal. This is the wild, wild world of Usenet!

Someone who has never posted before can post information on a absolute
freeware gem.

Equally those who regularly post good information can make
a mistake (usually because something has been mis-described by a web site
or software author - not necessarily maliciously by the site/author either).

Check everything yourself. If a program works for you that's great, if
not move on.

I empathize, but that's like asking a bunch of fraternity brothers which
frat's best. They're each going to name their own group. The
disruptors will list the disruptors, the contributors will list the
contributors.

This is not to say that you're going to actually *get* lists (at least
of any size) -- I'm just saying that each one would be
own-group-specific. And if you don't *already* know who to believe,
you don't know whose *list* to believe, so the answers will be
meaningless to you.

You're going to just have to lurk long enough to get a feel for who
contibutes and who's just trying to fill the place with noise.

Don't trust any posts. Check the facts for yourself.

Hi koeslin,

I'm guessing that you mean a most-valuable-player list and as several
people have noted, we don't have such an animal.

This URL will show the the names of frequent posters . . .

http://netscan.research.microsoft.c...rchfor=alt.comp.freeware&searchdate=8/31/2003

ack - I'm at the top for August. :(

Anyway, you might search the ACF newsgroup for posts from some of the
more frequent posters. Their posts and responses to their posts - should
help you compile a personal MVP list.

Thanks to all three of you (Blinky, Tiger, Susan) for responding. I will
continue to lurk and learn as you each suggested.

Thanks also, Susan, for the link to Netscan. That will be very helpful.

I have gleaned quite a bit of information from this newsgroup already and
have acquired a couple of freeware programs, most recently one called
MyAlbum.

Not 100% sure about the second guy so you might need to only include
the first one. To be safe. :-)

YW Lane.

MyAlbum is good but since the price is right :) you might try FotoAlbum too:

Somewhat different feature set. I like FotoAlbum a lot . . .
