I recently replaced my c: drive (system volume)which
required a new installation of Windows 2k. After the
installation I am able to explore the directory structure
of my old D: drive (application volume) but when I try to
open or copy certain files I recieve the message "access
denied". I can change the ownership of these files but
this does not seem to help. I am sure this has to do with
the fact that the original user accounts were lost when
the system volume failed.

How can I gain access to these files.

PS they were not encrypted. Attributes are A or HA

Joe,

Once you've taken ownership of the file, grant yourself permissions to the
file. Click on the security tab within the properties of the file and add
your user account with full control permissions.
