My friend lent me his pc yesterday and when i try to connect it to the internet, it says page offline.

I am with Virgin broadband. I checked the network connections, and it said i am connected and showed my speed as well.

However, when it came to my IP details etc, everything was blank.

I rang virgin up and the guy talked to me through settings, cmd prompts, etc and then he said to me that one of my drives is corrupt and needs reinstalling.

My mate said i need to download Acer A8RMVP driver. However, google is coming up with loads of options. can anybody direct me to the right one

BTW, i connect via ethernet cable

Is this Windows XP?

It could be the PC is not automatically picking up the DNS server settings - find out what they are from the Virgin site (or ask them) and go to Control Panel>Network Connections>Local Area Connection>Properties. Highlight 'Internet protocol (TCP/IP)' and select Properties, select 'Use the following DNS server addresses' and input them manually, then click OK.

Edit: Virgin Broadband DNS servers should be:

194.168.4.100
194.168.8.100

that driver takes ages to download. It has not gone beyond the 3%. Is there a problem with the website?

Addy, I'll try what you said when i get home. At my aunty's now trying to download that driver

hi addy I tried that and its still not working. Btw, IP address, subnet mask and default gateway are also blank.

If I get a wireless router will that do the trick?

No it won't do the trick as regards an wired ethernet connection as you will still need to have a properly working LAN conection on your PC, however wireless should be OK as its a different device.

When you get the new lan driver, uninstall the old one first via Device Manager before re-installing - also make sure it is the correct driver for your lan.

If that doesn't work and Device Manager says it should be functioning correctly, then it could be that the lan NIC is defective.

This Site has all the drivers for your MOBO download from this site and you should have no problems ASUS. ;)

thanks addy,

i'll try that.

I take you are using XP:nod:
On the Asus web site on the right hand side you will see a search box in the drop down list [there are three], for the first one look for MOBO in the second choose socket 939 in the third choose A8R-MVP Click search on the next page choose operating system XP.

Click the LAN. On the next page you will see a choice of two drivers choose V8.24.3.3Download from Europe or USA. Save it to your desktop then run it after install reboot the PC and that should do the trick.

followed your instructions mate.

then had to ring virgin tech support and he got me to do some stuff and hey presto

ive posted another query. It would be great if you could help with that also, lol
