been in touch with acer support frequently, not that their support is good at
all, but being reaffirmed several times that acer is waiting word from ms in
order to release vista drivers. with the forthcoming vista release to vlk,
msdn and technet clients one is wondering how long ms would hold back their
approval for the drivers? vista is nothing if the drivers are not ready...

Is that all you kids have to do is cry and whine when you don't get what you
want immediately?

And all you've got to do is insult people and reply to so called
"meaningless" posts, right? If you have nothing helpful to say then just keep
quite. There are over 2 million Vista users out there and many are having
driver issues. Be a little sympathetic. If Microsoft was okay to RTM then
they should be okay to approve posting vista drivers, right? As km said vista
is nothing without drivers or to put it another way, a computer needs more
then just an operating system. From what I've heard Microsoft is going to
bring in VISTA with a real party in NY on the 30th of this month. Great, then
let them really do it big and give PC manufactures (and their customers) the
GREEN LIGHT they're waiting for. Good work km, keep calling.

I personally never heard that Microsft had to give vendors the okay to
release drivers. So I think that the person at ATI just made that up or
he/she has it confused with"digitally signed" drivers that are required for
Vista x64. Other vendors are releasing drivers for Vista, including
digitally signed ones.

Actually it's ACER not ATI. Some hardware manufacturers have vista drivers on
their site but I don't know of any PC Manufacturers that do (Could be there
are?). Some like Softex Inc. have released updated versions of their software
(Omnipass 5) to PC Manufactures but they in turn have not released them to
their customers. My guess is waranty issues. No doubt PC Manufactures want to
know if Microsoft will provide support before the release drivers and
software to their customers.

The part about support is a bit confusing. Microsoft
doesn't provide any support for OEM versions of any of their
software, only Retail. So, what would Microsoft support
have to do with drivers?

Not to the public they don't. That doesn't mean that Microsoft will not work
with the actual PC Manufacturer (that sells thousands perhaps millions of PC
with MS OS) to resolve issues that may be OS related and there may be issues
surronding a new OS. There is nothing perfect in this world and I'm sure PC
Manufacturers want to be sure they will be able to resolve any issues that
might present themselves from the installation of a new driver or updated
software. If a problem presents itself they have a legal obligation to
thousands of customers (if they provided the updates).

Jumping in,
Just got of a chat with Dell; for Dell; they're not releasing vista
drivers for the their customers until they start selling " Vista" pcs.
So even though my e1505 is running Vista great; and most drivers work; on
Dells driver and dowload site; there won't be a "Vista" option for downloads
and drivers, until they: Dell; start selling Vista pcs, even though the
operating system is RTM..
So basically;they have no obligation to me; until they start selling the pc
systems with Vista themselves; I guess.
Was told I had to wait till they start selling "Vista" pcs before they
will make Vista drivers available for my proprietary Dell hardware.
So; for Dell at least;I have to wait for them to sell Vista pc's; then they
will start releasing manufactures "Vista" drivers for their customers "Vista
ready/compatable" pc's.
Really is not MSFT's issue now,
Here's part of the chat with Dell;

Agent (Chandru_01125074): "I am sorry Jeffery currently the systems are not
being shipped with Vista , hence the drivers have not been released."
Agent (Chandru_01125074): "Once the systems are launched with Vista ,
drivers would be available for the system "

Vendors are the ones now.

Jeff

Sadly, Microsoft has nothing to do with when Acer releases their drivers.
Acer needs to complete the drivers, then if they wish, they can submit them
for WHQL certification and such. But there's nothing to prevent Acer from
doing as dozens of hardware manufacturers have already done and release
their drivers now.

Thanks for the sound input. Reckon you right. Acer is pretty sluggish when it
comes to drivers support. Guess they are just trying to rid any of those
vista driver issues.

Toshiba has released beta drivers for my Tecra M5 for Vista Beta 1 then RC-2
now some of them don't work with the RTM version. so it's a waiting game for
me until they do.

a few of my sofware applications don't work either on RTM, so the move to
Vista for me may come mid 2007
