Acer AL2216W - driver installation fails

They are 3 files: .inf .cat and .icm

Now, the LCD screen shows in dev management a default driver (06/06/2001) as
pnp monitor device.
When I update it manually (providing the right path of course) the result is:
no better driver found !!

How can it be?
Should I uninstall the graphic card driver first?
Isnt it odd behavior?

I'm stuck...what would you advice to do pls?

Ricardo,
Your monitor is plug and play. Install your video adapter drivers. Are you
having problems with your display?

Most monitor "drivers" just seem to put the monitor's name into Device
Manager. PNP monitor seems to be the "standard" setting that would
work most of the time.

I can't say it's not working, but I just wanted to make sure it is correctly
set up.

Well, since under Vista OS (on my laptop) I got a specific driver from
windows update I wondered why it was not for XP. Then I found out that Acer
made a driver available (the only one they said) and so I came up with my
question.
 
The only purpose of a monitor driver is to tell
windows to limit resolution choices and refresh
rates - if the video card didn't know otherwise.

For the Acer, I believe it's 1680 x 1050 @60Hz
but your video card may be able to deliver much
better resolutions and if you accidently were able
to select a higher resolution, it would damage the
monitor.

If your video card is on MS's approved list, your
video card already knew the resolutions available
the moment it was connected - no need to install
the monitor driver.
