Error message:

Account: 'pop.gmail.com B', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR [AUTH] Username and password not accepted.', Port: 995,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

This error continuously occurs in MS mail. I went directly to gmail web
site and used the sign in username and password I entered for the MS client
and I can enter the email application no problem, but when I enter it into MS
Mail client it immediately rejects it and reposts the windows security sign
in window as if I had not entered anything at all....I need this for my
business!!!! It looks as though i will have to trash MS mail if it won't let
me sign in. Help please. (sorry VERY frustrated)

Try disabling SMTP authentication...
Tools - Accounts - youraccount - Properties - Servers
uncheck [ ] My outgoing server requires authentication
OK

Found this several questions down on main thread and tried it, I had used
port number 465 instead of 25 as advised on a set up tutorial. It worked
fine for a month and suddenly today it no longer worked. Switched it to 80
today, problem solved. But strange that other accounts are not having
trouble, guess they will crash tomorrow, lol. Odd that so many other folks
are having same problem at same time. Almost sounds like a something that a
virus would do...
then change port 25 to port 80. Click OK. Try sending.

Port 80 is actually quite rare for use with an SMTP server.
The only popular server I know of that uses it is
smtpout.secureserver.net.

Instead of trying random advice, ask for help here, and we will get you
custom advice that fits your situation.

I am having a very similar problem. Windows Mail worked fine for months and
then it began asking for authentication it will not accept, and now is giving
the following error as well:

Account: 'mail.atdtraffic.com', Server: 'mail.atdtraffic.com', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800CCC18

Any help would be very much appreciated.

P.S._ on the advice of our "IT" I tried the reset to port 80 and it did not
help. I also deactivated email scanner and anti virus to no avail.

Which antivirus do you have installed? Some of them cause trouble with
Windows Mail after a while.
Also, on the chance that your mail account is corrupted, delete it, restart
Windows Mail, then recreate the account.
