Hi

Can anybody help?? I have 4 users profiles set up on my
computer using Windows ME. I have gone into each profile
and set up a mail account for that specific profilr to axs
the their internet mail. However when I log out of 1
profile and into another then open up outlook I still see
the previous users inbox even though they do not have a
mail account setup under that profile.

Is there a way to stop this or get Outlook to ask for a
logon name / password to the user of a profile can only
see their inbox.

Hope that makes sense.

You'll need to point Outlook to the proper .PST file for each user, and
disconnect the other one. You didn't mention your Outlook version so
I'll give you instructions based on Outlook 2002:

1) Go to File | Open | Outlook Data File and browse to the .PST file
for that user (you may have to search your hard drive for all .PST files
if you're not sure where they are). Select the right .PST and click
Open.

2) The file will open as a new set of folders in the Folder List (View
| Folder List if it's not visible already). You will now need to set
this as the default .PST. Go to Tools | E-mail Accounts, select "View
or change existing e-mail accounts", and at the bottom of the dialog,
choose the new .PST file in the "Deliver new e-mail to the following
location" box. Click Finish.

4) You should now be able to close the other .PST file out of this
instance of Outlook. Right-click its root folder and select Close.

You will probably have to do this for each user, under his/her own
Windows login.

Hi

Sorry that I didnt not I am using Outlook 2000.

I tried what you said to do for 2002 but this did not work.

I searched the computer for .pst files however only 1
mailbox pst file came up this was stored within C:\Windows

I suspect because I only have 1 mailbox.pst file this is
why this is happening can you suggest how I get around
this??

Your help is much appreciated

No, you should be fine since you're using separate Windows logins for
each user. I was just asking because if you were using
Corporate/Workgroup mode, you could actually set up separate Outlook
profiles for each user. But C/W isn't usually a good mode for
standalone users to use (it's mostly used for connecting to an Exchange
server in a corporate environment), so the way you have it now should
work best for you.

Here are the steps you'll need to take for Outlook 2000 (similar to my
first reply, just some different commands):

1) Log into Windows as one of your other users (not yourself). You
should see your own set of folders appear, since you haven't
disconnected it yet. (If the Folder List isn't visible, click View |
Folder List to enable it.)

2) Go to File | New | Personal Folders File and create a new .PST file
for that user. You can put it wherever you want to on the hard drive,
but I'd advise putting it somewhere where it's not accessible to the
other users, if possible (I forget how WinME sets up its profiles and
whether or not they're protected from other users).

3) Make the new .PST file the default mail delivery location by
right-clicking its root folder, selecting Properties, and on the General
tab, checking the box for "Deliver POP mail to this personal folders
file". Click OK.

4) Close the other .PST file out of Outlook by right-clicking its root
folder and selecting Close.

5) Make sure that user's mail account is set up properly before you log
out, and that no other users' mail accounts are set up for that user.
When that's done, close Outlook and log off of Windows.

Now do the same for each of the other users, and that should get
everybody going. Post back if you have any problems.
