In the past I was told that Windows AD accounts that are created and never
used after 180 days if attempted to be used may present a weird behavior
(glitches when trying to access network resources).

Upon creation, how long an account remains valid and enabled ? Forever ?
I am using "maximum password age=180 days".

I haven't heard of that, but it is NOT the case for account
after they have had their password initially changed. It is
possible there is a feature where a NEW account, or even
one set to "change password on next logon" (which is typically
of new accounts) would somehow expire without my knowing
about that feature.

There is a (non-default) feature where YOU can choose an
account expiration, e.g., for temporary workers you can set
it comfortably beyond their expected tenure.

Maximum password age if not account never expires are set at the particular
account I suppose.
