Account pop.west.cox.net err (Windows Mail) - Please He

I've been trying to figure this out on my own. I set up a windows mail
account, the only forum one of my contacts can use, however I can send
messages but not recieve. My error message says 'Account: pop.west.cox.net',
Server: 'pop.west.cox.net' Protocol: POP3, Server response: '-ERR An
authentication mechanism MUST be entered', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 0x800CC90< Error Number: 0x800CCC18.
Can anyone explain this in laymens terms?
Also this is what happens when I log into my mail, I thought maybe I forgot
my user or password information, but... I can still send email and I did
recieve one piece of mail from microsoft.

I saw it right after I reposted, I am currently in the process of your fix.
thanks so much you are very resourceful and knowledeable. I was hoping
that you would be one of my responder's. I also got one other suggestion
and should be up and running in no time.
 
Did you happen to notice the responses to your last post on the subject?

I did notice your fix, the link you provided did'nt work. Sorry for the
delay I.m a little slow.

I figured out how to use your link just by deleting the last part of the path.
The only thing different was in Tools/Accounts/Advanced/incoming mail pop3-995
this server requires a secure connection (SSL). Now changed.......
My new prob. the server you are connected to is using a security certificate
that
could not be verified. The certificate's CN name does not match the passed
value.
Do tou want to continue using this server? I say yes. My new Err:
Account: 'pop.west.cox.net', Server: 'pop.west.cox.net', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 995,
Secure (SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10054, Error Number: 0x800ccc13
