Newbie I,m afraid!!

I have managed to get connectivity between my PC and Laptop using a X-over
between two NICs (both running XP pro) but I have very slow connection
speeds and I lose my mapped drives when I reboot onme of the systems.

Can someone please advise on the setting of acccount/user info on each
system? I have seen several posts which suggest that you must have the same
administrator account on each machine. Does this mean I should log on to
each machine as the same Administrator? All I want to to is file share,
internet share and print share and I am the only user of both machines.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Moot has been v.helpful -
thanks - but all opinions welcome!!

Slow and dropped connections have nothing to do with user accounts,
Nick.

Matching user accounts are only necessary if you've explicitly
disabled "simple file sharing". By default, XP pro allows all users
on all computers to access its shared disks and folders.

When you set up a mapped network drive, are you checking the box that
says "Reconnect at logon"?
