Hav a PC with WinXP home loaded and my DSN modem/ISP software loaded;
nothing else. Then downloaded zonelabs and rebooted. Installed zonelabs
internet security suite; paid for.
Rebooted.
Now not able to access account. Unable to do anything as this was the
only administrator account.
Have checked that password is still the same by paying for a program to
read it. The original password is apparently still there.

How do I get to reset the password as inputting the correct one is not
effective know. This is not one of those situations where the password
has been forgot.
Have two other accounts on the PC but they are limited access. Those
password do work and are correct.
Using another computer to get some help.

Have logged a problem with zonelabs but no help from them yet.

Installing reputable software alone would not change your password. Make
sure that you do not have cap locks on and try booting into Safe Mode to see
if you can logon that way in case the administrator account became
sabled. --- Steve

Is it a laptop, by any chance? You might have enabled the numlock.

From Chas Sev

Reputable software can include problems including virus add ons, sic
Microsoft and McAfee in the past.
Checked all the silly stuff such as CAPs and NUM lock, also
combinations of the original password.
Unable to logon via safe made as video not recognised.

If you can not logon via Safe Mode because if a video problem you have
problems other than Zone Alarm. Every video card I have ever heard of in the
last ten years supports Safe Mode vga mode. Try using "last known good
configuration" option when you use F8 to get the alternate boot menu to see
what happens and then try booting into Safe Mode again. If nothing works I
would suspect a malware problem that may require a reinstall. You could also
use one of the free password cracking tools to try to reset the built in
administrator account to see if that allows you to logon as explained in the
link below. If you need to reinstall be sure to backup your data. You could
put your hard drive in another computer as a slave/secondary drive to access
he data, do a parallel installation of the operating system, or boot from
something like Bart's PE which should still allow you to burn files to your
cdrom drive. Any files encrypted with EFS would not be accessible to you
after a reinstall [other than upgrade/repair install] if you do not have a
backup of your EFS certificate/private key in a password protected .pfx
file. --- Steve
