Accessing Windows 2000 machine from Windows XP Home machine

Trying to access a windows 2000 machine from windows XP
home machine over a LAN and the xp machine asks for user
and password???

However accessing the same machine via another windows
2000 machine over the LAN is fine....

Any thoughts please
