Every time I actually type a web site in the address box I get the message
"Internet Explorer has encountered and problem and must close. Sorry for the
inconvenience". This happens no matter what web site I am trying to access.
However, I can readily access all the web sites in My Favorites or the
History. My ISP, Comcast, was unable to solve this issue for me. They tell
me that IE6 has become corrupted. Does any one know what is causing this and
if there is a solution?

Hi,
Some possibilities (in order of ease of implementation)
Make sure that you're current on updates for Windows and IE6. IE> Tools>
Windows Update.

Try clearing the History (Internet Options> General)

Try deleting the History folder. The procedure [Windows XP]
Login as another user with administrator privileges, or from the machine's
default administrator account (startup in safe mode.) Make sure that you can
see hidden and system files (Folder Options> View) then delete the affected
History folder from Windows Explorer. It will be at [C:\Documents and
Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\History] Restart the computer.

I used to install high-speed internet for Time Warner and it sounds like you
do have an Internet Explorer problem. This could be caused by a
virus/tracker or the program could just be bad - matter of time. Either
case, just download some spyware from download.com and run it. If that
doesn't solve your problem, download the newest version of Internet Explorer.
Good luck

It sounds to me that your browser has been hijacked.

1. Download hijackthis from http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
2. Install hijackthis on your C: drive.
3. Open the program and click on Do a system scan and save a logfile.
4. Save the logfile.
5. Visit http://www.hijackthis.de/
6. Either copy and paste your logfile contents into the space provided, or
7. Click on the Browse button and locate your logfile.
8. Click on Analyze
9. Wait a few minutes and the results will be displayed.
10. Follow the instructions for the "Nasty" entries.
