Ok Here goes
My XP was acting up so I tried loading an older register. That did not work. So I figured XP should be re-installed. The attempt at re-installing XP failed and the setup would crash at the same point mutiple times, repeating an unjoyous loop. So in order to get some use of my comp to analyze what is going on I setup another XP folder from the CD boot. Now I have this version but I need to access the files on the older one and the user is passworded. That user does not appear at the log in screen, but retains itself in the Doc & Sett file. So my question is where do I go from here? If I can open the folder & take the documents out I can get rid of the two XP's and kill them both & make a new one. Is this what I should do or can I relocate all the old stuff onto the new version & just kill the failed one
Thanks in advance.

Take ownership of the "abandoned" files in the old XP setup to regain
access:

Then move your data off onto other storage: CDR, CDRW, another hard drive,
etc

What you have now is called a "parallel" installation - two operating
systems on the same hard drive. This is not supported and could cause
trouble down the road. Do a clean install of XP instead.
