I created a win98 boot disk with IP networking, when I try
and make a drive to a Win XP system it asks me for a
password, I enter it and it says "access has been denied".
I have ICS enabled in the XP system but the firewall is
not active on the LAN side, is there a service that needs
to be running or a change made for how XP handles
authentication? It acts like it doesn't understand the
password? Help.

Thanks

Is it asking for the IPC$ password? If so, you need to convince XP
that you're logged onto the network from DOS with a user name and
password that XP recognizes as one of its user accounts.

Hi,

I have the same problem. Can anybody explain what I have to do in
order to connect DOS client to windows XP? Will I have the same
problem accessing Windows 2000?

Thanks in advance

Have a similar problem...
I'm using a network boot disk created by Norton Ghost 2003 (using PC
DOS). I can use it to login to a Win2K box, no problem. However, if
I try to login to XP Pro, I get the message 'Error 54: The network is
busy' right after the 'net use x: \\server\share' command is issued.

The XP box has file sharing enabled, no firewall, and I can map drives
to it within Windows from other machines with no problem. Also,
NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on the XP machine. Any suggestions to
get this working?
Thanks,ozr
